Young People and Families Worker/Pastor, Salisbury Baptist Church

  • Salary: £20,000 - £22,000

  • Work Location: Salisbury Baptist Church, Brown Street, Salisbury

  • Hours per week: Full time (37 hours per week – flexible working can be considered). Some local travel required to surrounding villages.

  • Type of Contract: Fixed for three years

Overview

Are you passionate about Jesus?  Are you experienced in leading children’s and youth groups, and can you inspire new ways of working in a Church life through embracing new ways of connecting with our congregation? We are offering a unique opportunity to join the leadership of Salisbury Baptist Church, working with our congregation of around 140 people to develop our mission of being Christ in the community, through our work with young people and families.

You will be committed to the living out of your Christian faith and modelling this to those with whom you work. You will be passionate about offering the Gospel to all and be creative to ensure the inclusion of all our children and their friends. You will also appreciate the importance of teamwork within our Church and you will contribute to the wider mission and outreach of our Church life.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and developing our work with our existing children’s groups as they move from older primary age into their teenage years, developing personal relationships and nurturing their faith in Jesus Christ. This is an exciting opportunity to join a Church that is committed to developing both its outward facing commitment to our locality as well as enhancing our Church life with our members.  It is an opportunity to shape a generation.

 

Job Purpose

  • To disciple, nurture and mentor our young people as they develop in faith and life.

  • To work with, equip and encourage our Church families.

  • To lead and develop our current children’s work with our existing team of volunteers, and to develop new initiatives such as the establishment of a youth group from amongst our older children and their contacts.  

  • To encourage all age Church activity and connect our CYP to larger Christian gatherings and camps.

  • Advocate for our YP and families on our leadership team and within our wider congregation.

  • Explore ways of enhancing our community engagement with young people and families in Salisbury through our current contacts, in conjunction with other Churches/organisations, or in new ways.

  • To support and develop the Church’s online presence and digital messaging.

  • To utilise your personal gifting in the undertaking of this role.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes

  • A committed Christian, called to Christian service with an understanding of our evangelical Baptist principles.

  • Qualifications in theology and YP and families would be desirable

  • Understanding of working with CYP and their families

  • Strong communication skills, including one to one, leading group, and online inc. social media

  • A team player, who is equally happy working independently

  • Strong time management skills and a willingness to work flexibly including unsociable working hours.

  • Understanding of working with YP who have additional needs

  • Up to date knowledge and training in child protection.

  • Sense of humour!
